Govt seeks more time in Amar Singh phone tapping case
New Delhi, Jan 7 (UNI) Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium today informed the Supreme Court that UP Governor T V Rajeswar and Delhi Lt Gov Tejender Khanna have agreed to sort out the controversy over the registration of an FIR in the Amar Singh phone tapping case and sought more time from the court for resolving the issue.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justices R V Raveendran and J M Panchal granted four weeks time to the state government to resolve the issue amicably.
Uttar Pradesh had come in appeal against the Delhi High Court order initiating contempt of court proceedings against UP police officials for registering an FIR in the same case and for interfering with the investigation being carried out by Delhi police in the phone tapping case despite the orders of Delhi High Court not to do so.
The apex court had earlier requested the two governments to put their heads together to resolve the issue at the highest level.
