TTD plans global tender for hair sale, targets Rs 230 cr

Tirupati, Jan 6: Targeting a revenue of over Rs 230 crore from sale of hair, obtained through ceremonial tonsure, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) is planning to float global tenders for the sale of hair.

Addressing a press conference here yesterday, TTD Chairman B Karunakara Reddy said the Board had decided to float global tenders to generate more revenue out of the hair sale.

He said the board in the last quarter had registered a revenue of Rs 56.6 crore by selling various grades of hair.

He said the gray hair, which was of more demand in international market, was not sold due to limited stock during the last bidding.
