Masked gang robs couple at knife point, decamps with gold, cash
Sivaganga, Tamil Nadu, Jan 6 (UNI) In a pre-dawn raid, a seven-member masked gang wielding deadly weapons robbed gold ornaments and cash from a couple at knife-point in Kasiapillai Nagar near Singampunari in this district today.
Police sources said the armed with sickles, wooden logs and knives , the gang gained entry into the house of Malaiswamy, a government staff, by breaking the front door locks, when the inmates were sleeping.
The gang threatened Malaiswamy and his wife Meenal, a teacher and robbed gold ornaments weighing 30 sovereigns and cash amounting to Rs 10,000.
The gang members spent 90 minutes inside the house and even consumed food items kept in the refrigerator.
They later locked Malaiswamy and his wife in the bedroom and managed to escape under the cover of darkness. It also warned the couple not to raise alarm until they moved out of the house.
On information, Additional Deputy Superintendent of Police (ADSP) Panneer Selvam rushed to the house along with fingerprint experts.
A special police team has been formed to nab the culprits, police added.
