Dalit Sena's plea to CM on uniform education system
Tiruchirapalli, Jan 6 (UNI) The Dalit Sena in Tamil Nadu has appealed to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to introduce uniform education system in the state from next academic year.
Sena State President A M Palaanimuthu told the press here a resolution on the issue was adopted at the executive meeting held yesterday.
Welcoming the government's welfare measures, including distribution of two acre of land to the landless poor, he sought the filling up of backlog vacancies for posts reserved for SC/ST in various departments and retrieval of Panchami lands for handing them over to the Dalit owners.
The meeting also appealed to the Union Government to instruct all State Governments to implement properly the welfare measures for the SC/STs under the Special Component Plan.
It wanted the Union Government to undertake caste-wise census immediately for providing reservation.
The meeting expressed concern over Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's 'urban oriented' developmental schemes and appealed to him to adopt a balanced approach for urban and rural areas.
