Sofi chief whip in LA, Bhat legislature party leader of PDP

Srinagar, Jan 5 (UNI) Mr Abdul Gaffar Sofi has been nominated as Chief Whip in the Legislative Assembly and Nizam Udddin Bhat as legislature party leader in the council by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a party press release issued here today said.

President of the PDP, a coalition partner in the Congress led government in the state, Ms Mehbooba Mufti, in exercise of powers vested in her, nominated Mr Sofi as Chief Whip of the party in the Legislative Assembly.

Mr Sofi will replace Ghulam Hassan Khan, who had resigned as Chief Whip of the PDP in protest against the appointment of an official as first Deputy Commissioner of Shopian in last week of March last year.

Similarly Nizam-ud-Din Bhat has been nominated as Leader of the PDP Legislature party in Legislative Council, the release said.

The nominations were made 36 hours before the start of the budget session at Jammu from Monday.
