Guru Purab celebrated with religious fervour in Kashmir

Srinagar, Jan 5 (UNI) The 342nd birth anniversary of the tenth Sikh Guru Gobind Singh was today celebrated throughout the Kashmir valley with customary colour and mirth.

Despite snowfall and rains, people belonging to minority Sikh community today visited different Gurdawaras to offer prayers in the valley.

Special langars (community kitchen) were also organised for the devotees.

However, the main fuction was held at Gurdwara Chatti Padshahi in the Down town where hundreds of Sikhs, including women and children, in colourful dresses offered prayers.

Many Muslims were seen greeting their Sikh brethren in the valley.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and President Mehbooba Mufti greeted the state people, particularly Sikhs, on the occasion.

In their message, they said the teachings of Guru Gobind Singh had inspired his followers to fight against social injustice and brought a culture and spiritual renaissance in the region .

They described Guru as a great visionary, an apostle of truth and universal brotherhood and a revolutionary who dedicated his life for the uplift of the people.
