CPI urges Centre to ensure 33 pc reservation for women
Puducherry, Jan 5 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) today urged the Centre to take immediate steps to pass the Bill providing 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament and State Assemblies.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at the 19th State Conference of the CPI here, urging the administration to evolve a labour welfare policy by providing adequate salary and job security to the labourers here and to provide legal protection to the migrant labourers.
The resolution also urged the administration to take steps for the modernisation of the textile mills in the Union Territory, provision of 3.5 per cent reservation for Christians and Muslims in education and employment, devolution of powers to the elected local body representatives, filling up of vacant posts in the Government through a special drive and implementation of the land reforms Act.
The Conference also paid tributes to former Pakistan Prime Minister Banazir Bhutto and several workers of Pakistan People's Party(PPP), who were killed in a bomb blast at Rawalpindi in Pakistan on December 27, 2007.
