TN CM's nod for Rs 222 cr plan on village roads, bridges

Chennai, Jan 4 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today gave sanction for laying 358 village roads and constructing 49 bridges at a total cost of Rs 222 crore in the state.

With assistance from National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), the government would lay 219 village roads and 32 bridges, an official release here said.

Under the project, 64 roads, used for bus transport in rural areas would be developed and 11 bridges in these sector would be built at a cost of Rs 41.50 crore, the release said.

Apart from this, 75 roads, connecting Adi Dravida habitations and 11 bridges in these villages would be built at a cost of Rs 36.24 crore.

In all, the Chief Minister accorded sanction for laying 910 kms of roads in 358 panchayat and panchayat unions and building 49 bridges, the release said adding Mr Karunanidhi ordered that the works should be carried out at the earliest.
