Security at Akshardham temple beefed up after militants threat
New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) Security in and around the famous Akshardham temple was today beefed up following intelligence inputs about a threat by militants to blow it up, Delhi police sources said.
The inputs from intelligence agencies said that some Kashmir-based militants planned to blow up the temple in order to create terror in the capital, a senior official of the Delhi police Special cell said.
Following the threat, security in and around the temple, which recently made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world's largest Hindu temple complex, has been beefed up and additional police personnel deployed.
The threat, coming as it does just a few weeks before the Republic Day, has led the police to beef up security in and around the city.
This is the latest in the series of threats recieved by the police. Last month, the police recieved intelligence inputs that terrorists had threatened to carry out blasts in many areas in the coming weeks.
Spread over an area of 86,342 square feet, the Akshardham temple recently made it to the Guinness Book of World Records for being the world's largest Hindu temple complex.
