Bypolls in Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh to be held on Feb 4
New Delhi, Jan 4 (UNI) Byelections to fill a vacancy each in the Keshkal (Scheduled Caste) and Simriya (SC) Assembly constituencies of Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand Assemblies will be held on February 4, the Election Commission announced today.
According to an official notification, the date for issuance of notification for holding the byelections is January 10, 2008 and nominations will close on January 17. Scrutiny of nominations will be on January 18 and withdrawal of candidature will be allowed till January 21. Counting of votes will be held on February 7. The entire election process will be completed before February 9, the notiification said.
Adequate numbers of Electronic Voting Machines have been made available to ensure smooth conduct of the bypolls.
Meanwhile, the model code of conduct comes into force with immediate effect from today in the districts in which the whole or a part of held and is applicable to all candidates, political parties and the State Governments as well as the Centre is concerned.
