Woman arrested for collecting funds for ultras
Shillong, Jan 3 (UNI) Meghalaya police have arrested a woman Congress party worker for collecting funds for the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council(HNLC) outfit from coal barons.
Police today said Armonie Lamare, who is also the president of Jaintia Hills District Mahila Congress Committee, was caught red-handed yesterday, while extorting money from a prominent coal baron in the state.
She confessed her association with the outfit since 1995, police said adding that she had collected several lakhs of rupees from various businessmen from the coal rich belt Jaintia Hills for the outfit and the money was being sent to Bangladesh through Amlarem-Dawki highway.
