Severe cold continues in Delhi, mercury drops to lowest in 6 years

New Delhi, Jan 3 (UNI) Severe cold wave conditions today continued to sweep through the national capital, with the mercury recording five degrees below normal at two degrees Celsius.

The national capital yesterday recorded the lowest temperature of the season at 1.9 degrees Celsius. The lowest temperature recorded earlier was four degrees Celsius in 2004.

The minimum visibility recorded also fell to 400m this morning, leading to traffic jams in many areas of the city.

However, flight operations at the Airport remained normal, an Airport spokesperson said.

The cold wave conditions are likely to persist with the weathermen forecasting a minimum temperature of two degrees tomorrow as well.

The Met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in the city during the next 24 hours with the likelihood of mist or shallow fog in the morning.
