Judge Deshmukh to conduct trials in 1992-93 riot cases

Mumbai, Jan 3 (UNI) Additional Sessions Judge P N Deshmukh will conduct trials in the 1992-93 riot cases that erupted in the metropolis following the Babri Masjid demolition.

City civil and Sessions Court Principal Judge Ashok Bhangale has appointed judge Deshmukh to conduct the trials in the riot cases.

A total of 16 rioting cases have been registered by the police in connection with the Babri Masjid demolition.

Four additional public prosecutors Sheela Jamdar, Mohan Sawant, D K Joshi and A Kanojia would represent the state in these cases.

The state government, following political pressure, had earlier announced that a special court would be established for trying the riot cases on the basis of the Sri Krishna Commission report.
