Malathi Rao awarded Sahitya Akademi award for English
New Delhi, Jan 2 (UNI) Author Malathi Rao has been awarded the 2007 Sahitya Akademi Award in English for her novel 'Disorderly Women'.
A three-member jury comprising Dr Nilufer E Bharucha, Dr Mohan Ramanan, and Dr Sukrita Paul Kumar unanimously selected the work for the award, and Akademi President Gopi Chand Narang approved the recommendation yesterday, an Akademi release today said.
The award is for books published first between January 1, 2003 and December 31, 2005.
Ms Rao will be presented the award -- a casket containing an engraved copper plaque and a cheque for Rs 50,000 -- along with the other awardees in a special ceremony on February 20.
