Life threat to Pondy municipal chairperson

Puducherry, Jan 2 (UNI) Puducherry Municipality Chairperson Sreedevi has lodged a complaint with the police that she had received an anonymous life threat.

Dr Sreedevi, who belongs to the DMK, told newspersons here today that she received two calls around midnight on December 31, warning her that ''she would meet the same fate as that of (former Pakistan Prime Minister) Benazir Bhutto''.

On the DMK activists ransacking her chamber, she said complaints would be lodged with the Lt Governor, Chief Minister and Chief Secretary in this regard.

Meanwhile, AIADMK State Secretary A Anbazhagan, MLA, urged the administration to take stern action against the DMK workers, who damaged public property and ransacked the chairperson's chamber.

''If the government failed to initiate action against the culprits, the DMK workers in future will enter the Assembly and damage property,'' he added.
