Wanted kinpin among 2 dreaded dacoits killed in police encounter

Fatehpur, Jan 1 (UNI) Wanted kingpin of an inter-state gang, Baccha Kevat -- carrying a bounty of Rs 10,000 on his head-- was among the two dreaded dacoits killed in a police encounter in Dhata area here today.

Acting on a tip-off, Police cordoned off the jungles of Makhova and shot dead Baccha Kevat and his aide Budda Kevat.

Three policemen were also wounded in the ensuing encounter.

A rifle, one pistol and a large number of cartridges were recovered from the possession of the accused, who were wanted in almost 24 cases of murder, abduction and dacoity.

The terror of the syndicate haunted several UP districts, including Fatehpur, Chitrakoot, Banda, Kanpur (dehat), Rae Bareli and the neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh.
