Sonamarg-Gumri road on Srinagar-Leh highway closed for vehicles

Srinagar, Jan 1 (UNI) The Sonamarg-Gumri road on 434-km long Srinagar-Leh national highway has been closed, an official spokesman said.

He said, according to the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, travel on the road had become risky due to formation of an Ice sheet on the road surface because of sub-zero temperature.

He said no vehicle will be allowed to ply on the road till further orders.

The Leh-Srinagar highway was closed on November 15 for six winter months. However, because of dry weather, some light passenger vehicles and trucks carrying essentials were plying on the highway illegally.
