NLFT militants gun down veteran Communist leader in Tripura

Agartala, Jan 1: The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants shot dead a veteran tribal Communist leader at Naksiraipara under Kalayanpur police station in West Tripura.

Police said here today that the extremists, equipped with rifles, confronted the victim, Chandra Mohan Debbarma (60), at a tea stall on Dec 31 and fired at him from close range.

Mr Debbarma, local secretary of the CPI(M)'s tribal front Ganamukti Parisad (GMP), sustained bullet injuries in his chest and died on the spot, police said.

The commanding officer of the sixth TSR had launched special operations to intercept the gang, police added.

Meanwhile, the Left Front in Tripura accused Opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) of triggering terror through underground outfits ahead of the Assembly elections.
