Chandigarh's per capita income is highest in the country

Chandigarh, Jan 1 (UNI) Chandigarh's per capita income is highest in the country with Rs 86,629 at current prices for the year 2005-06.

According to data issued by UT Administration today.

Chandigarh Banks have a total deposit of about Rs 24191.56 crores (2006-07). The city's Tele Density is also perhaps highest in the country with 98 percent.

The total of 255 banks including 252 Scheduled Commercial Banks and three foreign banks in the city have a deposit of this huge amount.

In the previous year that is 2005-06 deposits were 20,746.91 crores. The city banks have credit of 19,506.65 crores in year 2006-07 and 16,082 crores in year 2005-06.

The city has registered a growth of 20 percent in the Tele Density in the year 2005-06, Earlier it was 78 percent Tele Density.

The city had 8,36,787 mobile connections and 248,961 land line connections in year 2005-06. Earlier they were 580,875 and 241,172 respectively in 2004-05.

It's not just that the 'City Beautiful' has only the growth in money or connectivity. The people are saving water and have been successful in decreasing the per capita water consumption. Earlier in year 2005-06 per capita water consumption was 52.59 kilolitres, which has decreased to 50.07 in the year 2006-07.

Thus, there has been a decrease in the per capita water consumption of 2.52 Kilolitre per annum.

The per capita Consumption of Power in UT, Chandigarh has increased from 1070 to 1162 Kilowatt hours per annum.

The city had 175,156 four wheelers and 451,712 two wheelers in 2006, which were earlier 162,263 and 431,063 respectively. The city continues to have two vehicles per house hold.
