Inculcate self confidence in the minds of women: Pratibha

Hyderabad, Dec 31 (UNI) President Pratibha Patil today said steps should be taken to inculcate self confidence in the minds of women in the country.

In a release here, while interacting with the legeal fraternity, Ms Patil said the Judiciary in our country was held in high esteam.

She, however, regretted that a large number of people, especially women, did not know their rights.

The need of the hour was for women to gain legal and social justice by attaining self-confience, she said.

Narrating her experience as the Governor of Rajasthan, the President recalled that many war widows, have no independence to utilise the money they receive for higher education of their children. They have no other option, but to take consent of the elders of the family, which makes their task insurmountable, she added.

As regards the female foeticide issue, it is the affluent people and literate were indulging in unhealthy practice, she said adding if the trend continues, it will affect the male-female ratio in the population and will have social repercussions.

Justice Bilal Nazki, Acting Chief Justice of High Court of Andhra Pradesh and other High Court Judges called on Ms Patil at Rastrapathi Nilayam, where she is staying.
