EGoM at RGGPL plant, take stock of situation

Mumbai, Dec 31 (UNI) The Empowered Group of Ministers (EGoM), led by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, today visited the Ratnagiri Gas and Power Project Ltd (RGGPL) plant, situated in Guhaghar taluka of the Ratnagiri district, to take stock of the situation at the plant Members of the EGoM, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde, Petroleum minister Murli Deora, Law and Justice Minister H R Bhardwaj and Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal along with Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh arrived in Guhaghar this morning.

The EGoM, which is on a day long visit to the site, is expected to take stock of the prevailing conditions at the plant including enhancement of gas supply and electricity generation, construction of jetty and repair of block II among others.

At present, about 1200 MW of electricity is generated from block I and II which is run on gas. The RGPPL expects that block I, which is under repair, will start its operations in March 2008.

The five million tonnes-a-year Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) import and re-gasification terminal adjacent to the power plant is expected to be completed without breakwater by December 2008, sources said.
