AMC re-allots collection of octroi to Konark

Akola, Dec 31 (UNI) In a swift move, the Standing Committee of Akola Municipal Corporation (AMC) has changed it earlier stand and re-allotted the collection of octroi taxes to Konark infrastructural Services from January one.

Earlier, the Konark services had refused to collect the octroi since January one, following which the AMC decided to collect the tax on its own till an alternative arrangement was made.

Konark Services was black listed and its bank guarantee of Rs 1.86 crore was also seized. AMC had also decided to impose penalty of five per cent on Konark Services for violating various conditions of the agreement, AMC sources said.

In a dramatic turn to the events, Konark informed AMC about its desire to continue the collection of octroi, following which in a emergency meeting held yesterday the Standing Committee decided to allow Konark Services to collect octroi tax as usual.
