Handloom units in Trichy to be ravamped

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 29 (UNI) All the nine sick Handloom Weavers Cooperative Societies in the district will be revamped soon, according to Regional Assistant Director, Handloom and Textiles, D Neelakannan.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a 14-day Handloom Exhibition here yesterday, he said efforts were on to revive the units, which were running in loss.

He said the target was set to sell goods worth Rs 30 lakh in the exhibition.

A similar exhibition organised last year fetched a sales turnover of Rs 36 lakh against a target of Rs 20 lakh, he said.

State Transport Minister K N Nehru inaugurated the exhibition.
