Congress demands probe into police lathi charge farmers

Lucknow, Dec 29 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Congress today submitted a memorandum to state Governor T V Rajeswar and demanded probe into the alleged police lathi charge the protesting cane farmers and party workers in Lakhimpur Kheri district.

On December 25, police had lathi charged the farmers and party workers, when they were demanding the clearance of dues that were pending upon Khambarkheda sugarmill in Lakimpur Kheri.

''Action should be taken against the guilty policemen, '' UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi said.

She further asked for investigation into another case in the district, where two brothers had committed suicide after their land was auctioned illegally.
