Train passenger stabbed to death, Rs 80,000 robbed

Bangalore, Dec 28 (UNI) In a macabre incident, one passenger of Bangalore-Guwhati passenger was stabbed to death and two others were injured by a three member gang who escaped with booty of Rs 80,000 in the early hours today.

According to police, Akmal Hussain (48) was returning to West Bengal with his wife and uncle when the robbers entered the general compartment in which they were traveling and started teasing Bibijan for which uncle took strong exception. The culprits stabbed Akmal Hussain, his wife and uncle before escaping with the booty in the darkness.

Akmal was returning with money collected through insurance company following death of his son in an accident recently. After collecting Rs 3.50 lakhs, he had deposited Rs 2.50 lakhs in a bank and was returning with the balance amount when the robbers attacked.

The incident took place in a filmi style as the train left the Central station at 1145 hrs and the robbery took place even before the train reached Cantonment Station at 1200 hrs. The robbers escaped in darkness by jumping from slowly moving train. Since the coach was at the rear and there were not much passengers, the incident came to light after sometime.

The injured were admitted to a hospital and Railway Police are investigating the incident.
