Centre targets 14,000 MW renewable energy generation

Hyderabad, Dec 28 (UNI) Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources Adviser N P Singh today said the Ministry targets to generate 14,000 MW renewable energy in the 11th five-year plan in the country.

Speaking at a State-level orientation-cum-training programme on renewable energy organised by the Non-Conventional Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (NEDCAP) here, he said the Centre would give priority to generation of more renewable energy by using natural resources in the 11th plan.

Stating that the Ministry was yet to get allocations under the 11th plan from the Centre, Mr Singh said ten lakh biomass plants would also be set up in the country in the next five-year plan.

At present, 8000 MW wind energy, 2000 MW from mini hydel projects and 1000 MW energy were being produced from biomass plants in the country.

He said the Ministry was promoting generation of renewable energy in the States through nodal agencies, set up by the State Governments.
