Over 20 lk people to check Lymphatic Filariasis

Tiruchirapalli, Dec 27: Around 22.17 lakh people will be administered Diethylcarbamazine Citrate (DEC) tablets to check the incidence of Lymphatic Filariasis in the district.

An official release here today said the Mass Drug Administration (MDA) would start today and continue till January 2. The tablets would be distributed to all except those aged below two and above 60, pregnant women and the sick.

Tiruchirapalli was one among the 14 districts to be covered under the MDA, an initiative backed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

About 14.59 lakh people in the villages and 7.58 lakh people in the urban areas would be covered under the programme, the release added.
