Guwahati, Dec 26 (UNI) Four policemen were seriously injured when rival political supporters attacked the residence of Goalpara(West)Congress legislator Abdul Rashid Mondal in Assam's Goalpara district today, police sources said here.

They said the supporters of the rival Asom United Democratic Front(AUDF) attacked Mondal's Basmari residence this morning.

The attackers threw stones at the house and smashed window panes and damaged furniture.

The MLA, who was inside the house at the time of attack, escaped unscathed.

Four policemen of the Boguan police station, including the officer in-charge, who rushed to the spot to control the mob were injured in the violence. They were being brought to Guwahati in a critical condition, they said.

No arrests have been made so far, police added.

Mondal was a target of another mob attack on December 18 when he had gone to participate in an apolitical rally called by the Non-Rabha Coordination Forum at Mailapathar to protest the calling off of Panchayat election in the Rabha-Hasong areas, which also have a sizeable non-Rabha population.

The personal security officers of the MLA had to fire several rounds in the air to disperse the agitators who threatened to assault Mondal.
