Government to seek help from Centre for relief work: Minister
Tiruchirapalli, Dec 25 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Local Administration Minister M K Stalin today said the State Government would seek financial assistance from the Centre to carry out relief work in the rain-affected areas, after getting the reports on damages from District Collectors in different parts of the State.
Talking to newspersons here he said the Governent had allotted a sum of Rs 200 crore to carry out the relief and rehabilitation measures in the rain-affected areas of the State.
Mr Stalin said efforts would be made to erect additional shutters in the grand anaicut canal to divert additional surplus rain-water through Coleroon river to avoid the damages in Thanjavur and Nagapattinam Districts.
The minister said the district administration had sought Rs 100 crore assistance for relief and rehabilitation works.
He said measures would be initiated soon to prevent rain-havoc at Linganagar and Woriyur, among other suburban areas of the city.
State Ministers K N Nehru, N Selvaraj, U Mathivanan and the District Collector Asish Vachani, were among others, present on the occasion.
