Alappuzha, Dec 24 (UNI) The residents of Arattupuzha, a coastal village battered by the December 26, 2004, tsunami, has decided to observe the third anniversary of the disaster as ''protest day.'' The village, which lost 29 of its community member, lives claimed by the giant waves, has decided to observe the day as 'protest day' to express the people's resentment against the 'failure' of the government to honour its promises.

The 'Janakeenya Prathikarana Samiti' alleged that most of the promises made by the government to reconstruct the village remained on paper only.

Various programmes, including a hunger strike and a public meeting, would be held to mark the day. Black flags would also be hoisted all over the village.
