UDF leaders lay siege to Secretariat; court arrest

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 22 (UNI) The Opposition Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) today laid siege to the State Secretariat, protesting the failure of the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) to check price hike of essential commodities in Kerala.

The leaders, including Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy, KPCC President Ramesh Chennithala, IUML leader P K Kunhalikutty, Kerala Congress (B) leader R Balakrishna Pillai, and UDF Convener P P Thankachan, and hundreds of Congress workers courted arrest.

Inaugurating the agitation, Mr Chandy alleged that the LDF Government had miserably failed to check the price hike of essential commodities.

If the Government had intervened, it could have checked the steep price hike of rice, he added.
