Tripura artist nominated for Sangeet Natak Akademi Award
Agartala, Dec 21 (UNI) Eminent folk artist of Tripura Subodh Deb Barma has been nominated for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Puraskar (Akademi Awards), 2007, for his outstanding contribution in promoting the tribal dances of the state, official sources said here today.
The General Council of the Sangeet Natak Akademi (SNA), the National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, has selected 33 eminent people from different parts of the country for their contribution in their respective fields on December 18, sources added.
The SNA nominated Dr S K Saxena, eminent scholar and professor of aesthetics, for the Sangeet Natak Akademi Ratna (Akademi Fellow), while Subodh Deb Barma of Tripura and Th Brindasabi Devi and Gouranga Leela of Manipur, respectively, were selected for the Akademi Award from the Northeast this year.
The Akademi Ratna carries a cash award of Rs one lakh and the Akademi Puraskar Rs 50,000, besides the Tamrapatra and Angavastram, sources said.
