HC shows concern on pity juvenile home's condition

Allahabad, Dec 20 (UNI) The Allahabad High Court today directed the district social and child welfare officer, Allahabad and Superintendent (juvenile home), Allahabad to be present in the court on January 4, 2008 when a PIL regarding the pitiable condition of the two institutions will come up.

The PIL was filed by Quality Institutional Care and alternative for children and educational resource society through its coordinators Vinika Karoli and Kamlesh Chandra.

Adivision bench comprising Justices H L Gokhle and Pankaj Mittal passed the direction.

The court also directed the aforesaid officers to provide proper warm clothes to the inmates of the juvenile home, ensure medical check up and maintaining cleanlines.

The litigation had been filed on the basis of an inquiry report prepared by three law students of National Law University, Jodhpur namely Avi Tondon, Anish Agarwal and Aman, who were doing internship in the office of the Human rights Law Network, Allahabad.

The fact finding report and the photographs presented by the team demonstrate the plight of the interns of the juvenile home.
