New Delhi, Dec 20: Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes today said with the march of new digital technologies, farmers will soon own mobile phones costing a mere Rs 500. The government was doing its best to connect farmers with mobile phones so that with internet accessibility, they can dictate a fair price of their produce to end consumers, Mr Fernandes said.

With growing internet facilities, the farmers should be able to know the latest trends for sowing seeds, harvesting crops, how to pour fertiliser and in what quantity, as a result of which India's farm production could be substantially hiked and their exports rise significantly, the Minister said while addressing the second day of Focus 2007 organised by industry body Assocham.

The Ministry of Communication, Information&Broadcasting and other relevant government departments were jointly and collectively working together to make mobile accessibility available to every farmer so that the telecom revolution becomes inclusive for all, he added.
