Congress stages statewide 'dharna' over desecration

Ahmedabad, Dec 20 (UNI) The Gujarat Congress today staged a statewide 'dharna' to protest desecration of Mahatma Gandhi's statue at the Junagadh Agricultural University campus last Sunday night.

The 'dharna' was staged at all district centres. The agitators, belonging to Junagadh City Congress, also submitted a memorandum to the district collector, Congress sources said here.

The 'dharna' was also held here at the Income-tax circle between 1500 hrs and 1700 hrs.

A rivalry between agencies over winning security contract of the university was behind the incident, Congress sources alleged.
