Amritsar, Adampur shiver at 1 degree celsius

Jalandhar, Dec 20 (UNI) The holy city of Amritsar and Adampur airbase, near Jalandhar, turned out to be the coldest places in Punjab today as both the places recorded the minimum temperature at 1 degree celsius.

A Defence spokesperson said that a thick fog enveloped several areas in the region reducing visibility to nil in the morning. The minimum temprature hovered 2.8 degrees below normal at Adampur.

Halwara airbase, near Ludhiana, showed increase in the temperature from yesterday's 0.6 degrees to 2.4 degree celsius today.

The minimum temperature at Pathankot hovered at around 6 degrees, while Bathinda registered 2 degrees celsius.

The Union Territory of Chandigarh recorded a low of 4 degrees celsius, while Ambala in Haryana showed 1.2 degrees.

In Jammu and Kashmir, the minimum temperature plummeted to minus 0.8 degree and minus 1.4 degrees in Srinagar and Avantipura respectively. However, Udhampur and Jammu were slightly warmer, recording 4.4 degrees and 8.2 degrees celsius respectively.

For the next 24 hours, the Weather Office has predicted fog and mist in the morning, partially cloudy sky during day and haze by evening.
