Tension over death of illegal arrack brewer under police custody

Gulbarga, Dec 19 (UNI) Death of an illegal arrack brewer while in police custody led to tension in Chittapur Thanda, about 50 Km from here last night.

Police said that Krishna Naik was arrested after a raid on his house where illicit arrack was being brewed. Naik died while being taken to Police Station.

As the news spread, a large number villagers gathered in front of the police station alleging that he died due to torture by police and demanded immediate action. However, the police claimed that he died due to heart attack.

The Superintendent of Police Manish Kabirkar suspended two police constables in this connection and ordered an inquiry.

Top officials including IGP M V Murthy visited the police station.
