RIE to host international seminar on English teaching

Bangalore, Dec 19 (UNI) The city-based Regional Institute of English (RIE) will host a four-day international seminar on 'Learning from the international experience of teaching English to young learners' from January 3, Talking to newspersons here today, RIE Director M D Gayatri Devi Dutt said more than 150 international delegates, including policy makers, administrators and teachers from 40 countries, would attend the seminar.

Delegates from more than 15 states within the country would also take part in the seminar, she added.

The event would be co-hosted by British Council and organised by International Association of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language (IATEFL), she said.

The objective of the seminar was to provide a forum for teaching English to school going students.

The issues to be discussed include curriculum design, classroom practices and materials for transactions apart from presenting papers, workshops and sharing of perceptions and experiences, Ms Dutt said.

A panel of publishers chaired by Shalagh Rixon of Warwick University would discuss the issues involved in the production of learning materials meant for young learners, she added.
