Yamunanagar, Dec 19 (UNI) A minor girl was allegedly raped at her home in Chhota Bans village in the district by kin of the village head and the incident triggered off protests today leading to police lathgicharge.

According to SP C S Rao, the girl had alleged that on December 17 Jagminder Singh, brother of the village sarpanch, had raped her at her house when she was alone.

The police had registered a case in this regard yesterday and arrested the accused. However, the medical examination of the girl could not establish rape.

Meanwhile, the villagers, some of them allegedly in inebriated state, today blocked the Yaminanagar-Delhi Highway traffic for about three hours, demanding strict action against the accused.

When police tried to disperse the mob, they began throwing stones and damaged police vehicles. Two constables and a driver were injured and a car was badly damaged in the attack, Mr Rao said.

The police resorted to lathicharge in which about 20 people were injured. Police later detained about a dozen protesters, he said.
