Most wanted criminal killed in enocunter

Rohtak, Dec 19 (UNI) A 'most wanted' criminal was killed in an encounter with the Haryana Police at Lakhan Majra, 20 km from here, today.

Rakesh alias Bokra, who was wanted in over dozen cases of murder, dacoity and cheating in Haryana and Delhi and carried a reward of Rs 25,000 on his head, was killed in the encounter after a hot chase by the police this afternoon.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Hanif Qureshi said police got a specific information that Rakesh would pass through the area in a car and set up a check post near Lakhan Majra.

When the accused came there along with an accomplice in a car, he started firing on the police. Police chased the car which rammed into a tree on the embankment of a river. Rakesh opened fire on the police and in the retaliatory fire, he was killed on the spot. However, his accomplice managed to give the police a slip.

Police recovered two pistols, one hand grenade, four mobile sets and some identity cards from the slain criminal.
