Delta region affected in heavy rains

Thanjavur, Dec 19 (UNI) The Cauvery Delta areas were among the worst affected in the torrential rains here due to depression in the Bay of Bengal.

According to reports from Sirkali, Poombuhar, Nagapattinam, Thalai Nagar and Kodiakarai, sea water entered into many villages and caused heavy damages to agricultural fields and other properties.

Incidents of house and wall collapses were reported in many villages, in which more than ten persons were injured.

Standing crops in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam districts were submerged and normal life in these districts was virtually paralysed by heavy rains.
