Delhi HC defers plea on Sachar Committee report

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The Rashtriya Mukti Morcha has urged the Delhi High Court to stay the implementation of the recommendations of the Sachar Committee, calling them contrary to the provisions of the Constitution.

The political group alleged that the Action Taken Report (ATR) on the panel's report, on the status of the Muslims in the country, was motivated racially and communally, and in contravention to the Article 29 and 30 of the Constitution.

A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjive Khanna deferred the matter till January 7, 2008.

The petitioner also demanded a copy of the report from the Union Government.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) relates to the question of interpretation of the word "minorities" with reference to Muslims in India.

The matter will come up on January 7 for arguments.
