CBI to reinvestigate submarine deal

New Delhi, Dec 19 (UNI) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today said it will consider to re-investigate the Rs 16,000 crore scorpene submarine deal in which the agency had earlier found no evidence of any kickbacks.

Additional Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium told the Delhi High Court that the CBI was considering to reinvestigate the deal.

A bench comprising Justices T S Thakur and Veena Birbal asked the ASG to reply by Thursday the definite stand of the investigating agency.

Submarines worth Rs 16,000 crore were purchased by the defence ministry in the year 2005 from a French companies, DCN and Thanles.

The allegations of kickbacks were levelled in the deal which was ruled out by the CBI later.

After a Public Interest Litigation filed by a lawyer, the agency is considering to re-investigate the matter.
