Arrested Maoist leader remanded in judicial custody

Kochi, Dec 19 (UNI) A local court in Aluva today remanded Maoist leader Malla Raji Reddy to 14 days in judicial custody.

The woman, arrested along with Reddy at Angamaly near here by an Andhra Pradesh police team, was also remanded to 14 days in judicial custody.

While Reddy would be taken to sub-jail at Aluva, the woman would be sent to sub-jail at Muvattupuzha in Ernakulam district.

Earlier, Aluva Judicial Magistrate Sreekala Suresh, before whom the two were presented, rejected the transit remand plea of the Andhra Pradesh Police for the two extremists on technical grounds.

Reddy, the Maoist Central Committee Member, was said to be underground for the past three decades.

He was arrested on the basis of a non-bailable arrest warrant issued by the Judicial First Class Magistrate Court at Manthani in Andhra Pradesh.
