Guwahati, Jan 19 (UNI) The All Koch Rajbonshi Association(AKRSU) is likely to reconsider their 1000 hour bandh threat if the Assam government expressed its willingness for talks to meet their demand of reservation and a separate Kamatapur state.

Addressing a news conference here today, AKRSU President Biswajeet Roy said they would not like to cause inconvenience by this longest bandh call, starting from January 1 next, but the state government must show sincerity in resolving their demand.

As part of the bandh call, the gateway to the North East, stretching from North Bengal to East Assam, is expected to close down for 42 days. This could seriously jeopardise the supply situation to the entire seven states.

AKRSU is demanding a separate Kamatapur state and reservation for the Koch Rajbongshi people. They were notified three times scheduled tribes but each time the ordinance notifying that lapsed due to non approval of the Union government.
