3 naxals, 6 cops hurt in exchange of fire in TN forests

Theni, Tamil Nadu, Dec 19 (UNI) A Special Police team today arrested three Maoists, including an hardcore naxal, after an exchange of fire in the dense forests of Varushanadu Hills in the district.

According to reports reaching here, the police team spotted the Maoists hiding in the forests this morning, after a week-long combing operation.

When they were asked to surrender, the Maoists allegedly opened fire at the police.

The report further said the Maoists, two inspectors and four other policemen sustained injuries in the incident after which they were admitted to the Government Medical College Hospital here for treatment.

Police refused to divulge the name of the Maoists or any details on the arrests.
