New Delhi, Dec 18 (UNI) Zakia Ehsan Jafri and the citizens for justice and peace today filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking directions to DGP Gujarat for registration of an FIR against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and 62 others for criminal conspiracy, mass murders and failure of constitutional governance in the state during 2002 communal riots.

The petition has been filed against the judgement of Gujarat High Court dated November 11, 2007 dismissing their writ petition for registration of criminal case.

Zakia in her complaint lodged with Gujarat police on June 8, 2006 has sought an investigation by the police for mass murders by rioters in which her husband former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri and several members of his family were burnt alive and his frentic calls to the police for protection drew a blank.

The complainant has also alleged in her petition that the Chief Minister and the state machinery is guilty of such violation of human rights in the state where there has been continued subversion of the rule of law for last five years.

The apex court has already issued a contempt of court notice to Mr Modi for justifying the killings of Sohrabuddin and his wife Kausar Bi in a fake encounter in November 2005.

Assembly Elections have been held in the state recently and counting of votes will take place on December 23.
