Tripura bureaucrat assaulted in molestation charge

Agartala, Dec 18 (UNI) A violent mob assaulted the Joint Secretary of Tripura Home Department today following a molestation charge against him by one of his female staff.

A group of opposition legislators, led by CLP leader Ratan Lal Nath met Chief Secretary Shashi Prakash and demanded his dismissal from service and initiation of a judicial action against him. The CS assured them that the administration would take action by this evening.

Allegedly, Joint Secretary(Home) Nepal Sen molested one of the a lady staff when she had gone to his chamber yesterday afternoon with a file.

The victim lodged a complaint against Mr Sen with Chief Secretary this morning and by that time a group of women reportedly other secretariat colleagues of the victim, entered Mr Sen's chamber and physically assaulted him.

Chief Secretary Shashi Prakash said he had received the complaint and primary investigation had already been launched against Mr Sen and if established prima facie, he would be dealt with as per the law.

In another incident, a police sub-inspector was sent to jail for allegedly raping a minor in the lock up yesterday.

Meanwhile, Opposition Congress had also demanded resignation of the Chief Minister, who is holding the Home Department portfolio too accepting the failure to ensure security of women in both administration and police custody.

On the other hand, group of women carried demonstrations out before West Agartala police station demanding immediate action against the accused.
