Rokonicha resigns from Nagaland Assembly

Kohima, Dec 18: In another major political development, senior Congress MLA Newmai Rokonicha has resigned from the Nagaland Assembly.

A notification issued here today by Assembly secretary Benjamir stated that Legislator Rokonicha, who was elected from the Ghaspani-II constituency under Dimapur district, submitted his resignation from the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly yesterday.

Speaker Kiyanilie Peseyie had already accepted Mr Rokonicha's resignation, the release added.

With the resignation of Mr Rokonicha, the number of Congress Legislators in the Assembly had reduced to 16.

Meanwhile, Congress sources said Mr Rokonicha had not informed the party about his resignation, adding that he had not resigned from the party.
