Multiple life sentences to nine people

Ramanathapuram, Dec 18 (UNI) A fast track court has awarded multiple life sentences to nine people in connection with a double murder case at Karungulam village near Paramakudi in the district.

According to the prosecution, a nine-member gang hacked to death Dharmaraj and his father Karuppaiah on January 25 last. All the accused were arrested by the police and cases registered against them.

Delivering the judgement, fast track court judge Rafiqawarded four life sentences to Guruswamy, Murugesan and Pandi.

The judge also awarded double life sentences to six others, Shanmugham, Karuppusamy, Samuel, Karuppaiah, Velu and Karuppusamy.

The judge ordered that the punishment should run concurrently.

Police made tight security arrangements in the district in view of the judgement.
